Manchester City update

EPL champions Manchester City traveled from Eastlands to east London chasing some Premier League records and secured 3 points on the Premier League Table along with the100+ points in a single season record. City soundly defeated West Brom today to go over 100 points for the current season with goals from Leroy Sane and Co. Man City halted a brief West Ham revival to win 4-1 at London Stadium and continue West Ham manager David Moyes’s relegation nightmare with an own goal by Rice 27’ and their only goal from Cresswell 42’. Guardiola’s Man City goals came from Sane 13, Rice own goal 27, Jesus 53, Fernandinho 64 making their total for the current season 102 points.

To date four of the Big Six Premier League clubs have scored 100+ goals in a single Premier League season:

Chelsea 103 in 2009-10
Man City 102 in 2013-14
Liverpool 101 in 2013-14
Man City 102 in 2017-18

Before the start of the match, West Ham boss David Moyes and Manchester City Pep Guardiola were interviewed by the media.

“It’s a really tough game but I think our performances at home against the bigger teams – we beat Chelsea and drew with Arsenal – we’ve got to take that into this game and disrupt Man City as well as we can,” said Moyes.

“They are professional, they like to play football, we are here to try and finish the season well. We play the game knowing that when a team is near the relegation zone it’s tough and we have to focus,” said Guardiola about his side.

Manchester City 5-0 Swansea City

An in-form Manchester City side celebrated winning the Premier League with a stunning home performance for their fans, and lots of goals coming from David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, Moto Silva, Gabriel Jesus and company in an inspirational display of talent at the Etihad. City made 1015 passes in their big 5-0 win on Sunday against the Swans who were unable to score a single goal. Ederson gets credit for the clean sheet. City are the first Premier League club ever to break the 1000-pass barrier. City had 83% possession. The massive win takes Man City up to 90 points, 16 points clear of Manchester United. They need two more wins to break Chelsea’s record points tally from 2004-05. City visit West Ham next week.

An inspired Kevin De Bruyne took a couple of touches, looked up and sent a hard hit superb shot past Swan's goalie Lukasz Fabianski from 25 yards, the ball whizzing off his right foot and soaring into the top-right corner! What a phenomenal goal by one of Man City's key football players!

“I don’t score a lot of goals inside the box. I get more opportunities to shoot from far away," said Kevin de Bruyne. "You try it. You know you have a clean strike, you feel it. It is the first time for me to be a champion and it feels nice. I was with my family, I was playing mini-golf with my son when City were confirmed as champions. It was a very nice feeling. We wanted to perform in this game. The fans enjoy it if you give the effort and play the way we did today.”

Premier League Match-Week 30 results: Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs in top four spots

Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Man City goal: Bernardo Silva (50 min)

A top-form Manchester City club hosted reigning Premier League champions, Chelsea, as Pep Guardiola's talented side took another massive step towards the Premier League 2018 title with an intense "Battle of the Blues" victory at Etihad Stadium in Manchester UK on Sunday. Chelsea now in fifth place have 53 points on the Premier League Table 25 points below Man City. Conte’s side have now suffered a fourth successive away defeat, and a fourth loss in their last five league games. Chelsea’s loss to Man City leaves them 5 points behind fourth-placed Spurs in the battle to qualify for the Champions League.

Portuguese international Bernardo Silva opened the match scoring with a goal for Man City past Chelsea’s defense to the back post. An error from Christensen allowed City to move down the left inside channel. David Silva seized on the loose ball and fired it across the goal face. Bernardo Silva then sent his effort into superstar goalie Thibaut Courtois.

Manchester City v Crystal Palace - Premier League

Manchester City goalie Ederson Moraes earned another clean sheet

Man City only need 18 goals from their remaining 10 EPL matches to reach 100 in the Premier League this season. Man City can become the first team in Premier League history to reach 100 points in a single season, remarked Chelsea manager Antonio Conte. The Manchester Citizens need 5 wins from 10 games to claim their 3rd league title in 7 seasons. City has 14 home wins in a row, and are 18 points clear at the top over 2nd place Liverpool and need just 12 more points from 9 matches to be named 2017-18 champions. Against Chelsea, City set a new record of 902 passes completed in a Premier League match - the most ever in a Premier League game. Chelsea hold the record for most points after reaching 95 in the 2004-05 season. Chelsea’s Italian boss, won the title with 93 points last season. Guardiola's City are 15 points clear at the top and will finish the season on 105 points, 10 more than the current record if they win their remaining 10 games.

"They have the possibility of reaching 100 points because they're showing to be the best in the league," said Conte. "If they continue with this fire, with this hunger, for sure they can achieve this result. It won't be easy."

City still have to face Manchester United at home on 7 April and Tottenham away on 14 April.

Conte is a "master" tactician and will leave his mark on English football, according to City manager Guardiola. Former Italy boss Conte adopted a 5-3-2 formation to guide Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in charge. But the Blues are 22 points adrift of leaders City ahead of their game in Manchester.

"I think Conte is going to leave something to English football. I am sure of that," said Guardiola referring to Chelsea’s 5th Premier League triumph. "What Antonio has done here in the Premier League, maybe the people don't realise. He introduced another way to attack with five at the back, another system. A lot of teams, even Arsenal, had to do a lot of imitating to do that. Tactically, he is a master. He did it amazingly with the national team with Italy and when he went to Turin."

Manchester City’s recent Carabao Cup win was the club’s first silverware under Pep Guardiola.

City won the Carabao Cup defeating Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley, giving Guardiola his first Chelsea trophy as manager. City have lost only once in the league this season and need five wins from their remaining 10 games to clinch the title.

"In this moment they seem unstoppable," said Conte. "We must have great admiration. Sometimes it is very difficult to find a weakness in this team. When you work very well and there is a great feeling between the manager and the club, you can work in the way you want, to try to improve your team in the best way. Manchester City has the possibility to spend a lot of money. When you link this situation - a good manager, much money to spend in the transfer market, the same ambition - this is the final result."
