United's superstar striker Wayne Rooney believes the Red Devils will be in a 'great position' to retain their Premier League title if they defeat Arsenal on Sunday.
United go into the match eight points behind league leaders Arsenal after a slow start to the campaign under new manager David Moyes.
Rooney has scored nine goals in 17 appearances to date this season.
"I think at the minute there's 28 games to go, anything can happen, one result can turn the league on its
"We're still within touching distance and to get a victory on Sunday will put us in a great position I think.
"It is the perfect fixture for us. Arsenal are obviously doing really well but with our current form, it is a chance for us to get a bit closer in the table.
"I think for us all it's a massive game, Arsenal are doing really well so for us it's a chance to get closer in the table and keep our current form going.
"I've always enjoyed the games against Arsenal, it's a great club and it's great to play against them obviously and to score. Especially when you score winning goals because they're big games."
United went an eighth game without loss when they drew 0-0 at Real Sociedad and enjoyed a 1-0 win against last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners lead the league by five points from a trio of rivals.
Rooney admits the north London side have made clear improvements and says it will be 'interesting' to see if they can continue their strong form and avoid a traditional late-season collapse.
"I think they've got some great players and you know they're a good team," said Rooney, whose first Premier League goal came against Arsenal more than 11 years ago," continued Rooney. "I said the other day after the game it will be interesting to see if they can maintain that, certainly over the last six or seven years they've faded off.
"But they seem in a better place, they seem stronger so it will be interesting to see.
"We know we will have to be at our best to beat them but we are capable of that.
"I have always enjoyed my games against them and it has always been a big game. Hopefully we can get the right result on Sunday."

Bolt has said in the past that he would like to play for Man United when his sprint career is over.
According to the Sunday Sun: “Usain has finally got his wish and he’ll be lining up alongside Rio. It should be quite a game. It will be fascinating to see if Usain’s speed will be matched by his passing and ball control.”
Rio Ferdinand has apparently convinced new Man United boss David Moyes to allow Bolt to play! It should be a great match for charity!

One of the first questions Moyes was asked if whether or not Wayne Rooney would stay at United.
'Wayne is not for sale,' he said. 'He's a Manchester United player and he will remain a Manchester United player.'
'We have spoken several times. Whatever happened before with Wayne we are working together now. I’ve seen a glint in his eye, he looks happy and he looks like he is going to knuckle down. I’m looking forward to working with him and he won’t be for sale.
'There was a private meeting between Wayne and Sir Alex. I am moving on now. I don't know what was said in that private meeting. As far as I am concerned, I am looking forward to getting Wayne Rooney to the right level.
'He has come back in good shape and he’s excellent in the training sessions.'
‘I think if I was Wayne, you would look at the legends who have played at this club. You see their pictures at the training ground - George Best, Bobby Charlton, Roy Keane, I could go on. And I thought to myself, Wayne is not too far away from that. It isn't too difficult to get the goals and if he could do that, he would be seen in the same light as those people.
‘What we're looking to do is see how we can get Wayne Rooney scoring those goals, which will challenge the likes of Bobby Charlton and Denis Law's numbers.
‘We are working and trying everything to get Wayne to the level where we think he should be. Not only that, this country will have a World Cup to play in next year, so for everybody’s benefit, we are trying to get him back to the Wayne Rooney we all know.’
Moyes told the story of how he was offered the job of manager by Sir Alex Ferguson.
‘It was a strange situation,’ Moyes said. ‘I had no idea whatsoever. I knew nothing until Ferguson gave me a call and asked me to come to his house. I was expecting him to say he was taking one of my players at Everton.
‘But the first thing he said was “I’m retiring”. I asked when and he said “next week!”. His next words were, “You’re the next Manchester United manager”. I didn’t get a chance to say yes or no. I was told I was the next United manager and that was enough.
‘I was incredibly privileged but it was more shock. The blood drained from my face. But I always hoped I would be a consideration.’
‘I’m looking forward to him sitting behind me in the director’s box,’ said Moyes. ‘I’ve got to say he is someone I will use for advice.
‘Sir Alex Ferguson will never go away. His statue his here and his name is on the stand. It is impossible to match him and do it for 26 years at this level. I don’t think there will be another manager who will do it for that long. His achievements means there are no better.
'Time will tell on the future. Any football manager wants to manage here. All I can do is what David Moyes has done before. I will definitely continue the traditions of Manchester United but put my own stamp on the club.
‘I am fortunate to take over champions of England. Success is tattooed across badge of this club. This job is about winning trophies and it is something I am wanting to do. It will not change me, I’m determined to try to get the first one on the board.
‘I am inexperienced in a lot of things. There are some brilliant managers who could have taken this role but the biggest confidence I can take is Sir Alex Ferguson telling me he wanted me for this role.
‘I hope he is sitting in the directors box. I have already called him two or three times for some advice.’
‘I will try to have players in before the tour but I would not like to say yes,’ he said. ‘The way the transfer window is things might be done later. Not everything will be done straightaway.
‘I would never speak about players at other clubs. I would try to answer as many questions as I can. This club is always interested in the best players.
‘I’ve only been the manager since July 1. This club will always go for the best players and will always go for the best young players.
‘We tried to introduce players at Everton the best we could, and it’s in the DNA here to bring in our own players from the youth set-up.’

United have named 40 year old Giggs as player-coach and 36 year old Neville as their new first-team coach at Old Trafford.
"I'm delighted that Ryan has accepted the chance to become player-coach," said new United manager David Moyes.
"It's no secret I've been taking my qualification. I see this as the first step in my future career," replied Giggs. "It's a great privilege to be appointed as player-coach. I hope I will be able to bring my experience to bear, having been both a player and part of the Manchester United family for so long.
"I'm really looking forward to working alongside David and the team."
After his 22nd season with the club, midfielder Giggs signed a new one-year deal in March which will run until June 2014. To date, Giggs has earned 13 league titles, four FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League titles.
The former Wales skipper captained Great Britain at last summer's London Olympics.
"His success and ability to adapt his game over a number of years gives him an unrivalled perspective on the modern game," said Moyes. "His career is an example to any aspiring young player and I'm sure that both he and the players will benefit from his new role."
Phil Neville came through the ranks at United, played under Moyes at Goodison Park and left Eerton at the same time as the Scot. Neville earned 59 England caps during his playing career - winning six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League crown at Old Trafford.
"When David Moyes called to give me this opportunity, I couldn't resist. I gave my all when I played for Everton but it is no secret that this club is in my heart," said Neville.
The updated coaching crew at United is made up mostly of staff who worked under Moyes at Everton.
