Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez went into the match determined to stay focused and unsentimental as his men face his former club.
"My commitment is with Chelsea and I will use common sense and do what I have to do, concentrate on games, try to get three points," said Benitez before the match.
At 26 minutes, Oscar opened the scoring for FC Chelsea with a soft header from the corner past Pepe Reina.
After a chop at Oscar by David Henderson, David Luiz missed his free-kick at 35 yards out. Then Fernando Torres is booked after an aerial clash and elbow at former team-mate Jamie Carragher.

Later, Jamie Carragher is booked for a clash with Fernando Torres resulting in angry words from Carragher with his ex team-mate.
Replays show Luis Suarez attempting to bite the arm of Branislav Ivanovic in a beastial tackle. However no red card was given to Suarez. Suarez was previously given a seven-match ban in 2010 for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal's shoulder when he played for Ajax.

Liverpool's star striker, Luis Suarez will surely be under observation after recent controversies - including being accused of a deliberate hand-ball before scoring the Reds’ second goal in their 2-1 FA Cup victory against Mansfield.
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, who scored 183 goals in 369 games for Liverpool, disagreed with the recent comments by Sir Alex Ferguson and others about Suarez.
"He didn't really need to say too much in my eyes," Fowler remarked. "Suarez is a condemned man before he even steps on the pitch. As much as he is getting stick from everyone else, I think it's driving him on and making him a better player. He wants to prove a lot to people wrong and show how good he is."
"Every player will have mishaps in a game. Robin van Persie was accused of elbowing someone earlier in the season. Gareth Bale has been accused of being a diver at times. Luis Suarez does have some misdemeanors in his past but I want to go on the positives. I love him as a player."
Liverpool have lost seven of their past eight games at Old Trafford.
Luis Suarez's Controversies
July 2010 - Handles on the line to deny Ghana a winner in the last minute of extra-time in the World Cup quarter-finals. Asamoah Gyan misses the resulting penalty and Uruguay win the shoot-out to reach the semi-finals.
November 2010 - Given seven- match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder while playing for Ajax.
December 2011 - Given eight-match suspension and fined £40,000 for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
February 2012 - Refuses to shake hands with Evra at Old Trafford and is described as a "disgrace" by Sir Alex Ferguson.
October 2012 - Accused of diving by Stoke manager Tony Pulis.
November 2012 - Accused of stamping on Dave Jones by Wigan manager Roberto Martinez.
January 2013 - Mansfield chief executive Carolyn Radford says Suarez "stole" their FA Cup tie when he scored after using his hand.

Michael Laudrup, Swansea City Manager
Liverpool v Swansea City Tickets, Capital One Cup, Anfield Road, Liverpool
Laudrup became famous in the Danish league, long after he shook hands on a three-year contract with at Liverpool when he was a teenager in 1983.
When Liverpool changed the proposed agreement to four years, Laudrup backed out and signed for Juventus.
"Liverpool were my team as a kid," Laudrup recalls.
"I watched them as a kid on television back home in Denmark.
"I loved the team, the atmosphere. But I never got the chance to play there, partly because Liverpool were banned from Europe for a long time after Heysel.
"They tried to sign me, but that was a long time ago now — back in the good old days.
"Now I'm looking forward to being involved there, even on the touchline.
"It's a fantastic ground with a great crowd always."
New Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers moved Swansea City up to the Premier League before being hired byLiverpool last summer.
Some fans feel Rodgers deserted Swansea - and tonight's clash will be his first reunion.
"I don't look at it like that because I want to win every game, not just the ones where we play against ex-managers," he says.
"We beat the team of an ex-manager (Roberto Martinez) last week, but for me it's nothing special.
"I want to win all the games and this case is no different."
Laudrup has stated that he will make some squad changes for tonights clash.
"The team I pick will always be competitive, that's all I can confirm," Laudrup said. "Yes there will be changes. a couple of them will be forced — but I don't know how many yet.
"I have said a lot of times that I always like the cup competitions.
"I know there is something special when you play former players or former managers, but for me this is Swansea against Liverpool, not Swansea against Brendan Rodgers or Joe Allen.
"It's a big game against Liverpool at Anfield. We know that if we win, we can write something new in the story books of Swansea City."
The suspended Angel Rangel must be replaced at right-back, and there are options available to Laudrup in the shape of Dwight Tiendalli, Alan Tate and Jazz Richards.
"I have confidence in Gerhard and in David," Laudrup adds.
"There's no problem with Gerhard, and I've seen David in training and he has potential as well."
Swansea travel to Merseyside prepared to fight after their fine effort in defeat at Manchester City last weekend.
"We felt we deserved something at City — we created chances and stopped them from having big chances," Laudrup stated.
"If we play like we did against the other big sides, we will get something.
"This game is different because it is a cup tie — we know there has to be a winner tomorrow night.
"Hopefully it will be us, because it would be fantastic to reach the quarter-final."
