Harry Redknapp Believes

Although the Spurs are considered long shots at fifth in the Premier League, Redknapp said they could beat any Premiership team including Man Utd on any given day.

“We are massive outsiders – 33-1 or whatever – and that’s about right I suppose,” he said. “I keep saying it’s open this season, and it’s not impossible. You have got to believe you can achieve something.

“It’s there for someone to have a real crack at it this season as there is very little between the top five or six teams.

“We’re playing as well as anybody, and we’ve some quality players throughout the team. We’ve a good squad.

“The main aim is obviously to get into that top four again, to get back into the Champions League. But if you have a good run, you don’t know where it can take you. It’s happened before.”

Redknapp Says Man Utd's Rafael da Silva's Red Card Was 'Harsh'.

Rafael da Silva Sees Red

Spur's manager Harry Redknapp remarked after the 0-0 draw, that Rafael da Silva's red card was 'harsh'.

Manchester United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson fumed at the referee Mike Dean for his vindictive decision on Rafael's second bookable offence.

Man Utd fans as well as footballers Rafael da Silva and Wayne Rooney were visably upset and verbally expressive in their unhappiness and disapproval of the Red Card.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp described the card as "harsh" - "It was Mary Decker and Zola Budd," Redknapp said, referring to the incident of the finalists at the 1984 Olympic Games in LA. "He was just running and he has clipped Benoît's heels. He has not broken his stride and stuck a leg out, saying 'I'll trip him'. He was trying to get out of the way."

Ferguson has clashed with Dean in the past, and was fined £10,000 and given a two-game touchline ban in 2008 for his reaction to the referee's call. Fergie remarked "I don't need to discuss it. You can see it for yourself. I don't have to discuss the referee. It's out of my bounds now, thank God."

United remain unbeaten and have two games in hand on their neighbours Manchester City, with whom they are level on points. "It could be a real thrilling end to the season," Ferguson said. "We have to win our games in hand. We go to Chelsea on 1 March, which will be a massive game. This was a decent point for us. Our defenders were particularly good." Redknapp said his team were the "outsiders of the five" contenders for the title. "But we are still there. This makes me realise we are not a million miles behind these other teams."

In the end, Tottenham were unable to take advantage of the extra man and United went home satisfied with a point which put them ahead of rivals Manchester City on goal difference - putting Man City in second place in the Premier League. Fergie's side remain unbeaten with 45 points from 21 games, with two matches in hand on City, while Arsenal are on 43 from 22 games. Spurs stay fifth on 37 points, a point behind Chelsea who sit in fourth.

David Beckham May Stay on With the Spurs On A Full-Time Basis

David Beckham

The Hotspurs have stated they may hire David Beckham on a permanent basis in November - depending upon how things go and if he impresses during his two-month loan at the club from LA Galaxy.

Manager Harry Redknapp is convinced that Beckham’s stay at White Hart Lane will be a success - and is open to the idea of bringing him to Tottenham permanently when he becomes a free agent in November when his contract with Galaxy expires.

“It is a possibility,” said Redknapp. “We could do that for sure. It just depends on how it all goes.

“If he comes and does well then he will, I am certain, have lots of offers.

“They will want him in Qatar I would think. They will want him all over the world.

“But we would want him as well. I think he will be a good influence.

“David will be good around the place, good in the dressing room and good with the other players.

“He has great know-how and he he knows how to win games. He has been in teams that have won everything like Manchester United.

“He will be good for us on the pitch with his knowledge If we were under pressure and keeping the ball in tight areas late in the game. He has a lot to offer.” Becks looks certain to be at White Hart Lane this afternoon when Spurs face Charlton in the FA Cup third round.

Redknapp is sure Becks will be good for the Spurs.

“He’s used to all that,” said Redknapp, who is more concerned with the contribution that Beckham can make on the football side “He has had cameras and attention all his life.”

“It isn’t going to do Tottenham any harm in world football to have David Beckham. He will be good for players like Aaron Lennon. He can learn an awful lot from being around him. And David likes the way we play.”
