FA Cup Final 2018: Chelsea Fc 1-0 Manchester United

Eden Hazard was the match hero as the Belgium's penalty saw the Blues crowned as the 2018 FA Cup winners. The Chelsea forward was the star of the show before a sold-out crowd at Wembley Stadium in London. Hazard scored his first half-spot kick in his 300th game for Chelsea after being felled by United's Phil Jones. Hazard's goal went past United superstar goalie David de Gea to make the difference as it saw Antonio Conte's Blues win the FA Cup. Courtois gets credit for Chelsea's clean sheet.

Antonio Conte talked with the media prior to the match.

“We have worked very hard to prepare for this game. The result of the last game was not positive, and the team have to play in a better way if they want to win this final. It is normal to send messages of positivity to the group, but the best way to do that is to work, and we prepare that way. Our starting XI is the same team we played against Liverpool two weeks ago. It is the best formation, the best XI for us today. I don’t think we have had a disappointing season, finishing fifth can happen in England. It is a great achievement to play two finals in a row in this important competition; now we have to change the result of last season.”

Chelsea are deserved winners of the coveted FA Cup trophy after they controlled the game and won the prestigious match with one clinical play. Eden Hazard's penalty decided the match as Chelsea join Spurs as the third most successful club in FA Cup history with their eighth win. Superstar Chelsea striker Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty was the only goal of the match, but enough to seal an eighth FA Cup title for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea. The trophy followed Conte’s England Premier League title success from last season – his first at Stamford Bridge. Conte talked about the uncertainty over his position as Chelsea manager, and whether or not the Italian boss will be around to fulfill the final year of his contract. Chelsea finished fifth in the Premier League this season and missed out on Champions League qualification. Conte said he would not change his ways, and that if the club did not want to carry on with him, he would understand. However, he declared that he remained committed to staying on until the end of his contract.

“When you are used to winning every season, this type of season can create some problems in yourself,” Conte said. “But I also think in a difficult season like this, I showed I’m a serial winner. To win in this way this season gives me more satisfaction than my wins in the past. After two years, the club knows me very well,” Conte said. “If they want to continue to work with me, they know me. I can’t change. I am this and my past speaks very clearly, as a player and as a manager. I’m a serial winner. I showed this in England in a difficult moment for the club after a 10th-place finish in 2015-2016. In two seasons, I brought two trophies for this club. I have a contract and I’m committed for this club. As you know very well, our job is not simple. I understand that the club can make a decision, a positive decision or a negative decision. I’m the first to understand. You have to understand if, in this season, we had the maximum or not. There is the possibility, with this group of players, that we did the maximum. For sure, we’ll make the best decision. I’m the first to accept every decision for the future. After these two seasons, I will always love this club and these fans – also if my future must be in a different way.”

Manchester United’s 1-0 loss in the FA Cup Final means they end the 2017-2018 season trophyless. No doubt Mourinho will be under added pressure to win important silverware during his upcoming third season at the Red Devils next term. Mourinho reportedly will be handed around £150m to spend in the transfer market and he wants a center-back, a full-back, and a central midfielder to strengthen his squad.

Chelsea vs. Manchester United - The Emirates FA Cup Final

“We tried to defend well. We scored one goal, it’s enough today. Though if we want to win a lot of games, we need to play better, because we just played defensively. But we won it and we are happy. He’s then asked about his future. Now I’m just happy. We didn’t play a great season, but we finished well,” said match-winner Eden Hazard.

Prior to the start of the FA Cup clash, José Mourinho said Romelu Lukaku had made himself available only as a sub in the FA Cup final. Lukaku had missed United’s previous three games with an ankle injury.

“I knew the opponent I was going to play against, that they have a compact low block with lots of physicalities,” said the United manager. “Without a target man, it would be difficult. When a player tells you he’s not ready to play, to start, then the question is: ‘How many minutes do you think you can play?’ How can I convince a player that is not ready to play?”

“Lukaku has decided he is not ready to start but is ready to give us some help. One thing is to start a match and play for 90 minutes, another is to be on the bench and play a few minutes. And that’s what he told us he was ready to do. We change Romelu with Marcus Rashford. Of course, they are two different players but he will play in the same position with different qualities. It is not fair and not my philosophy as a manager to put the responsibility on one player, we have to defend and attack as a team, and Marcus is just one of them. It is better to win than lose, it is much more beautiful, but it is not fair to analyze my players and what they did during the season because of one result. They are one of the two best teams in the two most important domestic competitions in a very difficult country with lots of very good teams. So I think they did a positive season. Can we win? Let’s try everything. I congratulate them because they won, but I don’t think they deserve to win. I congratulate because I am a sportsman. They score one more goal than us and they get the cup, and I have to do what my job asks me to do: I am the Manchester United manager and I have to be respectful, not just because they were my previous club, but because they are the opponent that won the cup. But I think we deserved to win, we were the best team, but that’s football. I am curious to know what you say, what people write because I can imagine if my team played like Chelsea did, I can imagine what everyone will say. I am quite curious. But I am on holiday. I gave everything I could, I know the players gave everything, it was hard for us to play without Lukaku against a team who play nine players in the box, you need that presence. They are not stupid, they know without Lukaku we don’t have a presence, without Fellaini we don’t have a presence, so with eight or nine players in the box, they knew they were going to be dominant. For me, the image of the game is that David de Gea didn’t touch the ball. We did everything, we tried, it’s the kind of defeat, while it hurts, we gave everything, no regrets.”

In Jose Mourinho’s post-match interview the manager was reticent to talk about the loss, saying his men deserved the win.

"With your questions, I know already where I am and I don't have big desire to speak. I think we say congratulations to the winner and that's it. I'm quite curious to especially because now I'm on holidays and have more time for that, I'm curious for today, tomorrow, next couple of days to read, watch, listen your opinions. My opinion is every defeat hurts but for me the ones that hurt less is when you give everything and go without any regrets. I prefer to lose like today than we did, for example, at Newcastle. I leave my players happy with them. For me that's important."

Mourinho does not think Chelsea deserved to win.

"I think we deserve to win, we were the best team but that's football. I am curious to see what people say what you write because if my team played like Chelsea did I can't imagine what you will say. My players gave absolutely everything, it was hard to play without Lukaku against a team who defends with nine players. We tried everything, the defeat hurts but I go home with the feeling we gave everything."We know this is how they play, they are not stupid, they know our team without Lukaku, Fellaini we don't have the presence so they knew they'd dominate direct football. They were a huge block of compact players, Courtois has a couple of saves, we had bad luck with some important balls in the box. For me the image of the game is David De Gea didn't touch the ball, he touched the ball out of the net. I congratulate them."

FA Cup Final 2018 Squads

Chelsea made three changes to the team that played Newcastle on the final day of the 2017-2018 England Premier League last Sunday as Andreas Christensen, Emerson, and Ross Barkley made way for Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso, and Cesc Fabregas. Meanwhile Man United played a trailside against Watford last weekend. Ashley Young, Marcus Rashford, and Alexis Sanchez are the only additions to United’s starting XI. Romelu Lukaku was found to be fit but started the cup on the bench.

Fierce rivals Man United manager Jose Mourinho and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte clashed in the FA Cup Final

Antonio Conte’s long-time enemy Jose Mourinho was left wondering how he let the FA Cup trophy slip away from him. The answer is the great talent of Belgian striker Eden Hazard. Both managers have managed Hazard and had the advantage of his great quality. England will face Hazard when Belgium meet them in Kaliningrad in the World Cup 2018 next month.

June 28 World Cup 2018 England v Belgium Tickets Kaliningrad Stadium - Kaliningrad, Russia

Belgium international Hazard who is 27, thinks his personality may hold him back from ever winning football’s greatest individual honor.

“My father always told me that. Maybe it’s true,” said Hazard. ‘I think, in football now, if you want to win something like the Ballon d’Or or top scorer, you need to be selfish. But I’m not like this, not at all. I’m just who I am.”

Hazard has refused to confirm he will sign a new contract with Chelsea, with his current deal due to expire in 2020. “For now I am just happy,” said Hazard. “To see the fans celebrate is something we like. We didn’t have a great season but at least we finish with a trophy.”

Hazard’s Chelsea teammate Olivier Giroud has urged him to stay at Chelsea so they can develop their attack skills. However, Hazard has been linked with a transfer this summer and has so far refused to sign a proposed new lucrative contract. The Belgian international wants to wait and see what transfer business Chelsea do this summer before deciding whether to stay or go.

Giroud arrived at Stamford Bridge in January and revealed he and Hazard are already clicking on the pitch and he does not want the forward to leave the club.

“Of course I want Eden to stay — who doesn’t want to play with him?” said Giroud. “I want to carry on working on our partnership. The two of us have only been playing together a short time but we have a good relationship on the field. We play close together because that’s what the manager wants us to do. Obviously when we are in the same areas on the pitch we can find ourselves much better. We like to play together because we have a good understanding, we have different qualities that complement each other. It is easy to play with him. Eden and I are good friends off the pitch as well. He is a nice person, he is easy to get along with. I knew him before I came to Chelsea.”

Hazard put in a star performance on Saturday when the Blues defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup final that could be Antonio Conte’s last game as Chelsea boss. The Italian said that even winning the FA Cup may not be enough to save his job.

“As you know very well, our job is very difficult. Sometimes you can win but the club decides to sack you anyway because they have a reason to do this,” said Conte.

Thibaut Courtois said, “It's great. To win my first FA Cup is amazing. I think it is a long season, especially with speculation about everything and obviously, City were amazing and we slipped up on our way.”

Gary Cahill commented, “We have to win things. Two league titles, an FA Cup and a runners-up medal in two years... it's not bad is it? He was fantastic as was all the boys. We had a lot of defending too, they pushed us to the end. Azpi's been superb all season, we're buzzing, got the job done. We're delighted. It's a dream come true because this is my first as captain of the club. John was last year. I'm delighted I've won these competitions because the last one in 2012 I didn't play in and it's not the same if you don't put everything on the pitch.”

Cesc Fabregas, “It hasn't been the best of seasons, objective was to play Champions League but sometimes these things happen. But look at the fans having fun enjoying the day, it's important for them. It was important to keep it tight, we know when we play with five defenders it's more difficult to put a press higher up the pitch, for the midfielders it's tough you have to run a lot. We were compact and disciplined.”

Gary Cahill was thrilled with the result! “It’s unbelievable. This was to save our season. I’m not saying we’ve had a magnificent season by any stretch, but we have to try to win things. We had a lot of defending to do. They pushed us to the line. We’re buzzing, we got the job done. This is a dream come true, as this is the first one as captain. Listen, we needed to achieve this goal for everybody, no matter what happens in the future. We’re not in control of that as players.”

Manchester United goalie David de Gea has won his first Golden Glove award

West Ham United 0-0 Manchester United

With 18 clean sheets for the season, Red Devil’s “Player of the Year” goalie David de Gea has won his first Golden Glove award after he held West Ham United scoreless in a 0-0 draw with Manchester United’s at Olympic Stadium in London on Thursday evening. With one point from the stalemate, Manchester United has secured their second-place finish with 78 points on the Premier League Table as United earn a top-three finish for the first time since former manager Six Alex Ferguson retired.

Before the game, Jose Mourinho was asked what his intentions were from the match with West Ham.

“A point. We need a point. We have two matches for that, but hopefully, we can do it today. Are we going to play for the point? No. We’re going to try to win. But we have a clear objective for these two matches, which is to finish second. And to finish second, we need a point.”

David Moyes, West Ham United manager

West Ham boss David Moyes said he is keeping Sir Alex Ferguson and his family in his thoughts after the legendary manager's recent health scare. Sir Alex was rushed to hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage, where emergency surgery was performed on the former Manchester United boss. Further updates state that the 76-year-old is now on the road to recovery, a fact that fellow Scotsman Moyes is happy to learn. Moyes took over from Sir Alex at Manchester United in 2013, after Sir Alex decided to end his highly successful 26-year career in charge of Man United. The new Hammers manager is keeping his old colleague and his family on his mind while they battle against his condition. Moyes revealed he was informed of Sir Alex's ill health during the journey back from his side's 2-0 victory at Leicester City and hopes he is on the mend.

"We were all devastated when we heard the news, after the game on Saturday, coming back from Leicester," Moyes said. "If the news is correct, and Sir Alex is doing well, then we are thrilled, we really are.  "I’ve not had any more news than what I’ve been picking up in bits and pieces from the media. We will be thinking about him and his family. I know them all very well and I just hope he is sitting up in bed, and he is watching this news conference."

Moyes claimed a second successive win after securing their Premier League safety.

“There is no let up from the start. The further we get up the league the more money for the club, so we’ve got to try to win the games. At home, we’ve always got a chance.”

David Moyes says West Ham United must strive to find a greater level of consistency in their performances next campaign. Moyes led the Hammers to Premier League safety with a 2-0 win at Leicester City on Saturday. After the match, Moyes spoke about how to ensure West Ham is not dragged into another relegation battle in 2018-19. With all three promoted teams potentially staying up and three seemingly established Premier League clubs facing the drop, the 2017-18 season has been among the most competitive in recent history. West Ham could yet secure a top-ten finish, despite the fact they have spent virtually the entire season in the bottom half. West Ham will have to win 3 straight league games. I want to be challenging the top teams.

“I always felt that the team was good enough to be looking up the league, rather than down, but there were some games we’d really have like to have done a lot better in, but we didn’t,” said Moyes. “With the runs teams like West Brom and Crystal Palace have been on, the bottom half of the league has been pretty exciting this season and I don’t think there is any guarantee that any one team is necessarily that much better than another. I must say, I think the three promoted teams who came up really put the cat among the pigeons when they found their form. I think it’s hard to judge how I’ve done this season. I actually would like to be a manager who wins games regularly. I don’t want to be a manager who is battling around relegation. I want to have winning teams. I had eleven years of, in the main, winning teams, and that’s what I want to do. I want to be challenging the top teams and have a team that, most weeks, I have an idea of what their level of performance will likely be, because that means I’m feeling a lot better every week, rather than wondering if we are up or down. Some of our performances here have been excellent and some I’ve wondered ‘Where did that come from?’. Consistency is getting yourself at a level of play and building it, and everybody would like consistency.”

Paul Pogba

Manager Jose Mourinho expects midfielder Paul Pogba will be at Manchester United next season, despite rumors of a possible summer departure. The 25-year-old France international has struggled to live up to the £89million fee which was paid by United to Juventus in the summer of 2016 to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford for a second spell.

“I think he's going to be here next season, that's my feeling”, said Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho said that he is not in any mood to move the player on. The Portuguese said ahead of Thursday night’s trip to West Ham:

"I think he's going to be here next season, that's my feeling. I can give the guarantee that I don't want him to leave, that the club doesn't want to sell him, and I can give you the guarantee that we don't have any approach from him or his agent or from any club. In this moment, for me, he's staying, yes."

Pogba has scored 15 goals in 85 appearances in all competitions since his return to United, having spent the previous four seasons with Italian giants Juventus.  And Mourinho was also quick to dismiss suggestions that Rashford could be loaned out next season, having made more Premier League appearances as a substitute rather than a starter so far this term.

"What does he need to do to impress me? He impresses me, that's the reason why he was selected for every match of the season, absolutely every match of the season. That's why he played in so many of them, so he doesn't need to leave to play. He doesn't need anything," Mourinho retorted.

West Ham United Vs. Stoke City - Premier League

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll had hoped to repay the support of the Claret and Blue Army by signing off the season with a couple of goals in West Ham United’s final two Premier League matches. The center forward has scored only 3 goals in 17 appearances during a stop-start campaign interrupted by groin and ankle injuries. All 3 goals were vital to the Hammers’ successful bid to avoid relegation. Carroll scored twice in the home win over West Bromwich Albion and next scored a last-gasp equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City, the No9 wants to hit the net again when West Ham host Everton to reward the fans who sang his name throughout Saturday’s vital 2-0 victory at Leicester City.

“The fans were brilliant, we were brilliant and the other results went our way, too,” said Andy Carroll. “Saturday was brilliant. For me personally, coming on after they were singing my name while I was warming up on the touchline was really good. I didn’t really expect it, to be honest, but our fans chose to get behind me and it was nice to hear. It was a good game for us. The lads stuck together and we deserved it, really. I thought we played well and it was a good day all round. The fans were brilliant, we were brilliant and the other results went our way, too.”

Carroll almost made it four at the King Power Stadium.

“I could have had a goal, but I decided I’d take it out wide instead and hold a couple of their players off by the corner flag in front of our fans, just to show off my strength! Being serious, I should have probably taken a better touch and scored. It would be nice to have some more minutes on the pitch. Getting 15 or 20 minutes the other day was good, so it would be nice to get out there again in the last two games and get a goal or two. After that, I’ll take Billi and the kids away for a nice chilled holiday and keep myself ticking over before coming back in for pre-season training.”

Javiar Hernandez - "Chicharito" celebrates with his West Ham teammate Marko Amautovic

West Ham footballer Chicharito shared his affection for Sir Alex Ferguson as his former Manchester United manager continues to recover following his brain hemorrhage and surgery. Sir Alex brought the Mexican striker to Old Trafford from Guadalajara in 2010. Ferguson was taken ill on Sunday and underwent emergency surgery. The Red Devils issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming that the legendary Scottish manager is out of intensive care and will continue to be treated as an inpatient. Chicharito welcomed his old club to London Stadium on Thursday evening for what turned out to be a nil-nil stalemate between West Ham United and Man United. “Little Pea” welcomed the news that his old boss’s health is improving. Chicharito enjoyed three outstanding seasons under Sir Alex at Manchester United, winning two Premier League titles and scoring 50 goals.

“Sir Alex gave me the chance to be here in Europe and to play with one of the best teams in the world. He’s like a father. I was really shocked about the news,” said Chicharito. “I found out when West Ham Vice-Chairman Karren Brady, who had suffered a similar illness, shared her thoughts and prayers for Sir Alex and she let me know via WhatsApp. Thankfully, the news is that he is already getting better and improving, so all my thoughts and prayers are also with him and his family. I can’t imagine what they are going through right now, but hopefully, Sir Alex can stay strong, keep improving and we can keep him in this world. He’s been fundamental to my life and my career. He gave me the chance to be here in Europe and to play with one of the best teams in the world. He’s like a father. He treated me well and welcomed me in a very good way and I thought we spent three very good years together at Manchester United.”

Manchester United v Watford

Jose Mourinho has confirmed he will make further squad changes for Man United’s final Premier League game of the season against Watford on Sunday, May 13th. The Portuguese has confirmed the identity of four starters for Sunday’s match. The boss has said that Sergio Romero will play in goal against the Hornets, in place of David De Gea. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford will start after starting on the bench against the Hammers. Mourinho stated that captain Michael Carrick will start Sunday’s league finale, for what will be the 36-year-old midfielder’s final appearance at Old Trafford before hanging up his boots at the end of the season to take up a coaching role among Jose’s staff.

“Romero plays on Sunday because he deserves that and some other players are going to play because we as a team achieved the second position and we as a team are going to play the FA Cup final,” said Mourinho after Thursday’s game. “It is normal that Michael Carrick is captain at Old Trafford for the last game of his career. David De Gea will be rested, so it gives a chance for Sergio Romero to play. I can make changes. Marcus and Anthony played against Brighton. Today it was for Alexis and Jesse Lingard to play and Sunday is again for Martial and Rashford.”

West Ham United 0-0 Manchester United

Manchester United’s clean sheet at the London Stadium in the Red Devil's 0-0 draw against West Ham United means David De Gea has won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award for the first time in his increasingly decorated stellar Man United career. The Spaniard is top of the table with 18 clean sheets, which is two more than Manchester City’s Ederson with just one top-flight fixture left to play. De Gea kept his latest shut-out in a goalless draw away at West Ham, where the Spaniard looked comfortable with the hosts having only two shots on target.

"It feels good, it is my first Golden Glove award," De Gea told MUTV after the game. "I am really happy for that. It means we defended well in this league, I am happy for me and happy for the team. It is for everyone, it is a team award, not just for the goalkeeper. It's good for me but I am also happy for the team."

"David has been terrific," added his manager Jose Mourinho. "But the Golden Glove is about the team and not about somebody analyzing the goalkeeper, and deciding this is the best goalkeeper of the Premier League. It is about clean sheets and they are about the team. Obviously, we are all very happy for David and it is a great team achievement."

This latest accolade will be another feather in De Gea’s cap, who won the Players' Player of the Year prize and, for a record-breaking fourth time, was named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year at the club's annual awards ceremony earlier this month. Spaniard de Gea made his debut for United in the summer of 2011 and has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the Reds.

After the game in the capital, Jose Mourinho talked about his side coming in second in his post-match interviews.

“We are the second best team in the Premier League, a fantastic competition with lots of good teams with six teams trying to finish first. I feel okay, I am not jumping around – that’s not my nature or my history. Manchester United are the same. We don’t celebrate second positions but we are happy because for a few months, we realized it was impossible to win the league and, of course, the target is the second position. The top four is obviously important but it’s better to finish second than fourth and it’s better to be second for months and months and months than losing that position and that control. I think we deserved that, the boys deserve that and to be the runner-up is not bad in a league of this dimension and this difficulty,” said Mourinho. “I am disappointed] but they had a good attitude, they played the way they should, they play to win the game like we planned. But you need a point to finish second, you need a point to have a relaxed Sunday against Watford and when you get to minute 70-75 and you realize the game is under control and even with Andy Carroll playing more direct, we adapt very well to that change of style. It was just about keeping control of the game and finishing with the point we need. I am not critical of the performance at all. Against Brighton, at half-time I told the players they were going to lose and tonight at half-time I said we would win. I was wrong but we were positive in the game. In the 80th minute, we know that a point was enough so we start thinking about that and we let the game go.”

Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini will miss today’s clash with West Ham

Manchester United star striker Romelu Lukaku will not play in the final two games of the England Premier League season due to an ankle injury. The Red Devils ace forward suffered the injury during the Red Devil’s 2-1 win over Arsenal late last month and was forced to sit out United’s 1-0 defeat at Brighton last Friday. Lukaku hopes to be back in contention in time for the FA Cup Final against Chelsea. Midfielder Marouane Fellaini will also miss the trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham on Thursday evening but may be back in action in time to feature in United’s final game of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign, at Old Trafford against Watford on Sunday. Man United boss Jose Mourinho is boosted by the returns of defender Phil Jones and new signing Alexis Sanchez for the clash with the Irons, as they aim to ensure finishing in second place on the England Premier League Table.

Manchester United vs. Arsenal - Premier League

"In terms of injuries, it's Lukaku and Fellaini. They are the two players who are not available for tomorrow. Phil Jones is back, Alexis Sanchez is back and there are no more problems,” Mourinho told the press ahead of today’s game.  "Lukaku will not play in the last league game of the season, Fellaini might - it is a muscular problem and we will wait and see.

Hammers boss David Moyes will wait until the end of the season before deciding on a longer-term stay at the London Stadium, having led his side West Ham up and out of relegation danger following his arrival in November.

"We have always said that we will talk after the end of the season. We will wait,” said Moyes. "It was always the way I wanted it and I won't change my views until after we've got these two games out of the way."

Moyes men Javier Hernandez, Michail Antonio, James Collins, Winston Reid and Pedro Obiang will be out for today’s match, while goalkeeper Joe Hart and forward Marko Arnautovic are doubtful.

Chelsea win Emirates FA Cup 4th round tie with Newcastle to go through to FA Cup 5th round

Chelsea goals: Michy Batshuayi 31, Michy Batshuayi 44, Marcos Alonso 72

Despite complaints that seem to indicate the end of manager Conte’s time at Chelsea, his side continues to play well. In today’s victory against Newcastle, Michy Batshuayi scored the first goals with two shots on target, and Marcos Alonso sent in a trademark free-kick at Stamford Bridge as Conte’s side went through to the FA Cup 5th Round and comfortably avoided a second cup exit inside five days, keeping alive the prospect of competing in May’s FA Cup Final. After winning the Premier League last season, champions Chelsea were denied 'The Double' in that fixture in his debut season.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez says he is not against signing a new contract or contract extension. The former Liverpool boss has told Mike Ashley what he needs to do in order to get him to ink the paper.

“I told Mike what I thought about that,” said Benitez. “He knows my opinion, and we don’t have to talk now. I don’t have any problem with my future. I’m really pleased to be here and I love the city, the fans, the potential, everything. I can give my opinion in terms of football operations. But everything is subject to the financial position of the club. I give names, have some information, feedback from managing director Lee Charnley, and then give my opinion. The main thing is that we have to be on the same page. That’s pretty simple."

Willy Caballero, Chelsea goalkeeper

It is almost 12 years since Benitez’s only FA Cup trophy with Liverpool. Benitez knew Chelsea could be beaten following their Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal that drove a further wedge between Conte and his board, Benitez’s players barely gave them a pushed hard, forcing mistakes. Massadio Haidara skipped past Davide Zappacosta down the left and crossed for Jonjo Shelvey in the 25th minute, and Willy Caballero had to repel a near-post volley. Newcastle were undone six minutes later thanks to one of the assists of the season, a defense-splitting 40-yarder perfectly into the path of Eden Hazard. Hazard found Alonso, who gave Batshuayi an easy finish unmarked in front of goal. The goal failed to settle Chelsea and Dwight Gayle tested Caballero, who came to the rescue again when Danny Drinkwater presented the ball to Shelvey. Marcos Alonso bends the ball into the net  Pedro, Hazard and Batshuayi combined again a minute before the break with another lightning raid that saw the latter’s finish go up off Jamaal Lascelles and into the net. Shelvey and Ciaran Clark were both denied again by talented Chelsea goalie Caballero. The second half featured Pedro firing over, Alonso producing a spectacular volley that came close but deflected off Javier Manquillo, and Drinkwater dragging wide. Chelsea scored again 18 minutes from time when Alonso curled a wonderful free-kick under the wall and past Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow. Final score Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle.

Michy Batshuayi, Chelsea

After Michy Batshuayi’s outstanding performance in the FA Cup, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to keep him at the club until summer. The talented Blues striker has been second to forward Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge, and has been linked with a loan move away during the January transfer window. Conte has insisted to the Chelsea management that they cannot afford to offload striker Batshuayi.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte

“Bat Man” who struck twice in Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth-round win over Newcastle, is lined up for a loan move to Sevilla this week if the Blues complete the signing of superstar striker Edin Dzeko from Roma. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has admitted he would be open to keeping 24-year-old Michy Batshuayi until the summer. The loss of the Belgian striker will leave Conte’s Chelsea side too light in the striking department with his team still fighting on three fronts – England Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

“If you see our squad we don’t have three, four or five strikers, we have two, Morata and Batshuayi,” stated Conte. “I don’t know what happens. But when you play in the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup, three strikers is the minimum. We have to see what happens in the market. If we are able to take another player, it doesn’t mean Michy has to go on loan. We have a lot of competitions. Three strikers is the minimum. I don’t know if Michy wants to stay or go on loan — it will be the player’s decision, not my decision.”

Batshuayi now has ten goals in all competitions for the Blues this season. The former Marseille man could depart Stamford Bridge if the club bring in another forward. Batshuayi’s double and Marcos Alonso’s seventh goal of season sink sad Magpies. Batshuayi’s brace helped Chelsea win their second leg of the FA Cup fourth-round tie - Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle.

“I’m ready to continue to work with these players. I’m very happy. But I don’t know what happens with the transfer market.”

Batshuayi, 24, has scored ten goals this season, despite making only ten starts — but he was left out of the starting line-up for last week’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat at Arsenal.

Marcos Alonso

Marcus spoke about his goal against the Magpies at the weekend, as well as his ability to provide a goalscoring threat.

“I have to set the ball first,’ he said, when asked if he knows what type of strike he will attempt to produce as soon as a free-kick is awarded. I spoke to the referee and told him to put the wall back the right distance, because against Arsenal the wall was five meters away and there is no way you can put a free-kick in, but if the wall is right you have the space to put it over the wall, and it went in. The gaffer always wants bodies in the box so if I can get there and then get back to defend, I obviously try to be in a position where I can score in order to help the team. We only have one striker and then two players playing in between. If we need people in the box and I see I can get there, I try.”
