Franck Ribery, Bayern Munich
Franck Ribery Voted Player of the Year 2013
Ribery was instrumental in Bayern's treble season in the 2012-13 campaign.
Franck Ribéry is a French international footballer who plays for German club Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and for the France national team.
The France international had an extremely impressive year in both domestic and European competition.
"Last season was perfect, so my chances are certainly good. I was consistent. I've done everything I can. I'm tense, but also relaxed. There are not many people out there that would deny me the prize," said Ribery ahead of the award ceremony.
"I would be very happy and very proud. I've already been French Footballer of the Year twice before, but have yet to receive international recognition. In that respect, it'd be great."
The winger said that both Messi and Ronaldo were fantastic players, who "scored an unbelievable number of goals" for "a number of years".
"I'm more of a provider, even though I chip in with the odd goal like last Saturday against Nuremberg.
The award was decided in a live vote by journalists during the Champions League group stage draw.
Ronaldo did not attend the event to play in Madrid's Trofeo Teresa Herrera friendly at Deportivo La Coruna.

Josep "Pep" Guardiola
Pep Guardiola Named Bayern Munich Manager
Josep "Pep" Guardiola i Sala is a Spanish football manager who will become manager of the German club Bayern Munich at the start of the 2013–14 season.
Guardiola will become the highest-earning manager in the club's history – with a separate sponsorship deal with Adidas, Bayern's kit supplier – at around €10m (£8.3m) a year.
There are some major disappointments in the top tier Premier League clubs after Pep Guardiola, reportedly the most coveted coach in world football, turned down offers for a move to England and was confirmed as the next manager of Bayern Munich.
The former Barcelona coach, who is on a year-long sabbatical in Manhattan after leaving Camp Nou last summer, has agreed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga club and will replace Jupp Heynckes on 1 July.
José Mourinho will have a stronger negotiating position should he end up leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Chelsea are expected to seek a permanent successor to Rafael Benítez and Roberto Di Matteo.
Jose Mourinho considered offers from well funded Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Man United - as well as Milan and Roma in Serie A.
Guardiola won three La Liga titles and two European Cups, together with two Fifa Club World Cup titles and two European Super Cups, in his stunning four-year term as Barcelona boss. The 13 trophies won in that time established him as the most successful coach in the Barca's history.
"There were contacts with clubs which were close, and others which were put on hold until a decision was taken," said his agent, Josep Maria Orobitg. "He chose Bayern because of all the teams from which he had offers it was the best."
