The North London Derby will be a battle of superstar goalies, Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris and Arsenal's Petr Cech. As Arsenal prepare for Saturday’s mouth-watering North London Derby, Arsenal goalie Petr Cech dismissed suggestions that Arsenal should measure their season on whether they finish above Tottenham Hotspur.

“There is always one odd year where things can change, but the most important thing for us is competing against the other teams for the Premier League title and for the glory,” said Gunner’s star goalkeeper Petr Cech. “We are not competing against Tottenham Hotspur. Two years ago when we finished above them we were disappointed because we didn’t win the title. Our target is to win the title and be successful during the season, not necessarily looking at what Tottenham are doing.”

Even with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at the helm of the London club, Tottenham Hotspur have failed to win a single trophy since the League Cup in 2008. Cech believes only silverware will satisfy the Tottenham fans.

“There was always something missing," continued Cech. "They’ve been there in the last few years so now I think they have to make sure they win something to show the progression.”

Arsene Wenger

Arsène Wenger recently said that he is tempted by a chance to manage for a top national team at a World Cup. The veteran French Gunners manager had previously admitted he could take up the manager’s role with England once his contract is up at London club Arsenal. Wenger still has 18 months to go on his contract at Arsenal, where he has been manager since 1996. Wenger previously has talked about the possibility of him moving into international football and being involved at the 2022 World Cup. According to some reports Wenger was the Football Association’s first choice for the England manager’s post after the departure of previous Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson in 2016. Wenger has 18 months to run on his contract at the Emirates and says the prospect of managing at a World Cup is tempting. When asked about the possibility of moving into international management, Wenger had a positive response.

“Maybe, yes, I will do it at some stage but until now I like to be involved every day in the life of a club because the real test is there. Four or five weeks is a different experience, it’s more concentrated, but I believe the real experience of managing a team is on a daily basis,” said Wenger. “But I will not always have the physical strength to do that so maybe I will move into international coaching. It’s a fact my life is linked with football, in what way will be linked to my physical state. I will always be in football. I don’t know as a director or as a manager – as long as possible as a manager. But one day that will stop. But I will stay in football of course.”

Wenger was asked whether he could be on the bench at the World Cup in Qatar.

“Maybe, you never know,” added Wenger.

Wenger who has also been linked to a manager’s job with the France national team commented on the speculation about his taking the England post last year.

“My priority is to do well here at Arsenal. If I am free one day why not, but at the moment my focus is on my job.”

Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski scored goals in each half as Arsenal secured a definitive 3-1 victory over Fulham in the pouring rain at Craven Cottage.

The Gunners, buoyed by a 3-0 midweek win over Fenerbahce in Champions League qualifying, were confident - looking fit and sharp early on.

Olivier Giroud's strike opened the scoring for Arsenal. Podolski made it 2-0 with a measured 18-yard shot and then smashed home the visitors' third after the break.

Substitute Darren Bent scored Fulham's only goal through Dimitar Berbatov, in the final 13 minutes.

Arsenal magager Arsene Wenger has been under criticism this summer for his lack of new players during the transfer window that will shortly close. Wenger was delighted with the Gunners' 3-1 win over Fulham.

"We were impressive and always in control. We deserved the win and it's a good win. We had a convincing win against Fenerbahce and that was a good response to the disappointing first result," said Wenger after the match. "We played the way we wanted to play, we were in control and the team enjoyed it. We created chances.

"The positive result counter-balanced the fatigue. We were very dangerous every time we won the ball back. We had a good mixture of a patience game and a speed game - and that was positive."

Ramsey's shot to Theo Walcott opened up the Turkish side's defence and the 22-year-old scored in the first half with a low drive before Olivier Giroud converted a penalty.

"I said to Aaron at the start of pre-season that he was looking very sharp, very fit," Walcott treported on "He's worked so hard throughout the whole summer and pre-season, and he wants to show people what he can do.

"It's a massive year for him and for everyone. He's had his injury problems as well but I think this season is definitely going to be Aaron's, definitely."
