Manchester City 5-0 Swansea City

An in-form Manchester City side celebrated winning the Premier League with a stunning home performance for their fans, and lots of goals coming from David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, Moto Silva, Gabriel Jesus and company in an inspirational display of talent at the Etihad. City made 1015 passes in their big 5-0 win on Sunday against the Swans who were unable to score a single goal. Ederson gets credit for the clean sheet. City are the first Premier League club ever to break the 1000-pass barrier. City had 83% possession. The massive win takes Man City up to 90 points, 16 points clear of Manchester United. They need two more wins to break Chelsea’s record points tally from 2004-05. City visit West Ham next week.

An inspired Kevin De Bruyne took a couple of touches, looked up and sent a hard hit superb shot past Swan's goalie Lukasz Fabianski from 25 yards, the ball whizzing off his right foot and soaring into the top-right corner! What a phenomenal goal by one of Man City's key football players!

“I don’t score a lot of goals inside the box. I get more opportunities to shoot from far away," said Kevin de Bruyne. "You try it. You know you have a clean strike, you feel it. It is the first time for me to be a champion and it feels nice. I was with my family, I was playing mini-golf with my son when City were confirmed as champions. It was a very nice feeling. We wanted to perform in this game. The fans enjoy it if you give the effort and play the way we did today.”

ARSENE WENGER TO LEAVE ARSENAL

arsene-wenger1.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wishes the Gunners, "My love and support forever.”

ARSENE WENGER PLANS TO LEAVE ARSENAL AT THE END OF THIS SEASON

Veteran Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been in charge of 1228 games, won 10 major trophies and faced 124 different opponents as Gunners boss. Wenger has announced that he will leave the Gunners at the end of the season, ending his 22-year career as the current longest-serving manager in the England Premier League. In a shock announcement on Friday morning ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with West Ham, Wenger confirmed that he will leave the club. At the time of the announcement, Arsenal sit sixth in on the England Premier League Table, 33 points adrift of newly crowned champions Manchester City.

“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” Wenger said in a statement. “I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity. I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club.

"My love and support forever.”

Arsenal win FA Cup title in 2017

Arsene Wenger was hired as Arsenal manager on October 1, 1996 from Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight. Wenger was unknown to Arsenal fans, but soon became a hugely successful manager in his tenure as the Gunners longest serving manager. The Frenchman learned his managerial trade in France with spells at Strasbourg, Cannes and Nancy before earning a move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. He won the French League Championship in 1988 before moving to Japan seven years later for an 18-month stint. After joining Arsenal, Wenger guided the team to their first England Premier League title in the 1997-98 season. He repeated the feat again in 2001-02 before making history in 2003-04, as "The Invincibles" went unbeaten throughout the entire league campaign on their way to securin thier third Premier League crown and title. The Frenchman has also claimed seven FA Cups - the most of any manager - and was voted Manager of the Year in 1998, 2002 and 2004. Wenger became the Premier League’s longest serving manager when Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012-13 season. On 20 April 2018, he announced that he would stand down as manager at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Arsenal’s majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, paid tribute to Wenger and hailed his influence on the club, with the American billionaire admitting that he hopes to build on the Frenchman’s legacy.

“This is one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport,” Kroenke said. “One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsène has brought to the club on and off the pitch. His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched. Arsène has unparalleled class and we will always be grateful to him. Everyone who loves Arsenal and everyone who loves football owes him a debt of gratitude. Three Premier League titles, including an entire season unbeaten, seven FA Cup triumphs and 20 successive years in the Champions League is an exceptional record. He has also transformed the identity of our club and of English football with his vision for how the game can be played. We have high ambitions to build on Arsène’s remarkable tenure and to honor his vision by ensuring that Arsenal competes for and wins the biggest and most important prizes in the game. We must now focus on making a strong finish to the season and ask our millions of fans around the world to join us in paying appropriate tribute to one of the greats of Arsenal’s history and one of the greats of the game.”

The club also announced that they will “make an appointment as soon as possible”, but will not speak on the matter until that time comes. The timing of the announcement immediately raised eyebrows, with Wenger holding his weekly press conference on Thursday without making any reference towards his imminent departure. The news comes just six days before what could be Arsenal’s biggest game of the season, with the Gunners due to face Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-final first leg. With Arsenal currently on course to miss out on the top four – falling 14 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with 15 points left to play for – winning the Europa League looks to be Arsenal’s only hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. That’s why the announcement, which comes a month before the Europa League final and the end of the Premier League campaign, could be a deliberate attempt from Wenger to try and end the fan protests against him and the players and unify the club in the hope of a successful end to his tenure.

Wenger arrived at Arsenal in 1996 to replace the sacked Bruce Rioch, and is widely regarded as a revolutionary figure in British football as he introduced new training ideas, dietary requirements and a style of football that captured the imagination of fans across the globe – and not just of Arsenal. He won three Premier League titles while at the helm of the north London club, the last of which came as a result of the unbeaten 'Invincibles' season in 2003/04. He will also leave the club as the most successful manager in history in the FA Cup, with the former Monaco boss winning the prestigious trophy no fewer than seven times – the most recent of which came last season as the third success in four years. The Arsenal manager is the longest-serving coach in the Premier League. But despite the return of silverware to the club after nine trophy-less seasons, protests against Wenger’s reign started to emerge among supporters who felt that change was needed at the club. Despite this, Wenger signed a new two-year contract last summer, but this year’s failure in the Premier League has seen the manager himself decide that the time is right to leave. NORTH LONDON DERBY: SPURS 1-0 ARSENAL

NORTH LONDON DERBY

Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Arsenal - (Kane 49)

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side are the deserved winners of the 195th north London derby due to Harry Kane’s fantastic header! Jack Wilshere angrily challenged a smiling Lamela, but the two were pulled apart at the end of a hard-fought match on a rain-soaked afternoon. Spurs were the better team in the second half. As a result, Tottenham go into third place, seven points clear of their bitter rivals Arsenal who remain in sixth. A top-four finish for Arsenal is still a possibility, but they’ll need to keep winning in the Europa League, just in case.

Arsenal and Tottenham fans showed up ready for an exciting clash and the atmosphere was red hot for one of the classic fixtures in the English Premier League football season. Tottenham wore their famous Spurs logo white shirts and dark blue shorts, while Arsenal wore their storied red tops with white sleeves and white breeks.

Both club managers were interviewed prior to the first North London Derby at Wembley for a quarter of a century.

“It is more than just a north London derby, it has a big importance in the table,” said Arsene Wenger about the derby. “We have some ground to make up. We have an opportunity to do it today, and we want to show we are capable to do it. Aaron Ramsey is injured and could not participate. We are an attacking team, bit I have put one more defensive midfielder in. Jack Wilshere was sick but I hope he is back to his level, he had a good training week. But we only know during competition.”

“Always we try to decide the best player for every game,” said Mauricio Pochettino about his squad selection. “But the team played so well against Manchester United and Liverpool, I could go in with the same players. I can trust them. Toby Alderweireld needs to build fitness, it is so important to have Alderweireld, but it is about level of fitness and who is ready to compete in big games. There is no doubt that the team that is going to play is the best team. It is difficult for Lucas Moura, arriving from a different league to adapt. He must build his fitness and get to know his team-mates. If he can contribute and help us, fantastic; if not, he can wait to show his quality.”

Squads

Argentinean Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal had options in attack going into the derby. The signing of Lucas Moura, return of Erik Lamela and recent excellence of Heung-min Son gave Spurs boss Pochettino decisions to make to start the game, game-changers on the bench. Arsenal No. 1 goalkeeper Petr Cech was passed fit for Saturday's North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspurs at Wembley Stadium. The experien veteran goalie was forced off with a calf problem in the Gunners’ win over Everton but returned to training on Friday ahead of the match. Nacho Monreal also started after illness but Aaron Ramsey missed out on the 18-man squad due to a groin injury. Lucas Moura is on the bench for Spurs while Toby Alderweireld missed out.

Tottenham Hotspur

Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen Davies, Dier, Dembele, Alli, Eriksen, Kane, Son. Subs: Rose, Lamela, Wanyama, Vorm, Sissoko, Aurier, Lucas Moura.

Arsenal

Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Elneny Xhaka, Ozil, Wilshere, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang.

Subs: Lacazette Ospina, Iwobi, Chambers, Welbeck, Maitland-Niles, Kolasinac.

Harry Kane rises to head home.

To date, Arsenal have won 9 consecutive games at Wembley Stadium. That’s more than the Spurs have won in their temporary home. Having scored five last week. Arsenal were confident going into the derby. It may be too late to save this season, but Arsenal have options and alternatives in attack. The only match the Spurs have lost in any competition since the end of November was at the home of the champions elect, Manchester City. Tottenham have won 13 of their last 16 home games and haven’t conceded at Wembley in over a month.
