Atletico Madrid v Chelsea FC - UEFA Champions League

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran battle for the ball during the UEFA Champions League Group C match at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on September 27, 2017

CHELSEA FIGHTING TO RETAIN THEIR EPL TITLE A SECOND SEASON!

In MatchWeek 7, EPL Champions Chelsea were sunk by Belgium striker Kevin De Bruyne’s winner for Manchester City.

After his side’s crucial defeat, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admitted Chelsea had lost “the complete player” Kevin De Bruyne who scored the winning goal against his former club to return Manchester City to first place on top of the England Premier League.

De Bruyne’s former teammate Frank Lampard talked about why former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho allowed Kevin De Bruyne to leave Chelsea in 2014.

"It was a difficult time for the club, you had Eden Hazard, Oscar, and Willian had just signed. He wasn't as good as he is now,” said Lampard. "Of course, it's easy to look and say 'why did you let him go?', but he's gone away and made himself a world-class player."

De Bruyne’s second-half winner left Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola naming him among the world’s elite footballers and left Chelsea boss Conte facing questions about Chelsea’s decision to sell the Belgian during José Mourinho’s second term at Stamford Bridge. Conte did not criticize Mourinho’s decision directly but acknowledged it was Chelsea’s loss.

“I don’t know, honestly, what happened in the past,” said Conte. “But for sure we are talking about a top player, the complete player. He’s good, technical, fast, and he works hard for his team. He is the complete player.”

De Bruyne’s goal was key to an impressive performance by an in form, well coached Man City side performances in the Guardiola era. The victory made it eight straight wins in all competitions.

“He is doing a lot of great things,” said Guardiola. “Last season he hit the post 12 or 13 times and this season they are going in. He can do absolutely everything. With the ball he can assist short and long. Without the ball, he’s the most humble person, the most shy guy.

“If I have to run 100km for the team, I will do that, no problem,” said De Bryune.

“It is not easy to find that work ethic with this type of talent,” continued Guardiola.

City’s 1-0 defeat of Chelsea moved them back above Manchester United who enjoyed a 4-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace, to the top of the league on goal difference. Tottenham Hotspur are in third position.

“It’s still only September,” added Guardiola. “We still have United and the Harry Kane team. United is a José Mourinho team. With José, it will be so tough. But it’s important to show we can play like that. We showed in the first minute that we were coming here to win the game and Kevin showed, once again, how good he is.”

After their goalless draw with Arsenal, Chelsea have now failed to score in back-to-back league games at Stamford Bridge for the first time since November 2012.

“We played against a really good team,” Conte continued. “We created chances but didn’t take them and in this type of game it’s very important to score first. Great compliments to Manchester City.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte recently talked about the pride he has being manager of his Chelsea side. Conte has only praise for the commitment his men show on the training field as well as in games.

Conte was obviously disappointed with Saturday’s result against Manchester City. But the Italian manager Conte wants to remind people of the magnitude of last season’s achievement of winning the Premier League title and other honors. Conte talked about his strong desire to achieve even more success.

“I see my players every day and I am proud to be their coach because I see their commitment in every training session and every game and I am pleased for this,” said Conte. “For sure, to defend the title is very difficult because the past has shown it is very difficult to win two titles in a row. Our motivation must always be high, in every competition. We must put all of ourselves into trying to do the best in every game. Last season was a great satisfaction because the year before we finished 10th and then we won the title and reached the final of the FA Cup. I think we had a fantastic season and this time we have to try to do our best and try to have great satisfaction again. For sure, it won’t be easy but last season also was not easy.”

Before becoming Chelsea boss, Conte won three consecutive Serie A titles with mighty Juventus. Conte is well aware that the task of retaining a Premier League crown is possible, but difficult as the top EPL sides strengthen their squads.

‘At Juventus we won the title against a really strong side like AC Milan, but the next season Milan sold Thiago Silva and Ibrahimovic, and they were weaker. It wasn’t simple, but it was easier,” added Conte. “Here, if you compare this season with last season, you can see that you have big teams last season and now they are bigger. I think last season we did a really great job because we won the league against really strong teams. Manchester City last season was also a fantastic team. Now, after a great transfer market they improved a lot. It’s not simple to play in this league, but we have to try to do our best in every game, with great ambition, because we must always have the right ambition.”

With international fixtures coming up, Chelsea next see EPL action against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on 14 October.

“I think we can’t have regrets and we gave everything,” said Conte. “All my players gave 120 per cent to try to make a good result, but it wasn’t so. Sometimes you have to accept a bad result, but I think the most important thing is to see the fantastic attitude and commitment of my players because they gave everything.”

Chelsea head into the October international break having won 4 of their 7 league games to date, drawn 1 and lost the other 2. It is exactly the same record Chelsea had this time last season on the road to lifting the EPL trophy with the second-highest number of points in Premier League history.

Chelsea’s loss to Man City was not due to a lack of effort. The Blues knew it would be a difficult week, starting with the trip to Stoke last Saturday. Then there was the trip to Atletico Madrid, arriving back early the next morning at 5am, with practically only one day to prepare for the match. City team came well prepared. They had home games and one extra day of rest. Reportedly Chelsea made no excuses. City won their last two games, much in the same manner as Chelsea did.

"This was without a doubt the same Chelsea of last season, but what happened was that we came up against a City side who went into the game much better rested than we did," said Conte. "Nothing more. This time last year we were eight points behind, but it doesn’t mean anything. There is still a long way to go in all competitions.”

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Manchester City goal: Kevin De Bruyne 67

Clean sheet: Courtois

Squads

Courtois, Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Alonso, Hazard, Morata. Subs: Caballero, Pedro, Moses, Kenedy, Zappacosta, Willian, Batshuayi.

Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva, Sane, Gabriel Jesus, Sterling. Subs: Bravo, Danilo, Gundogan, Mangala, Bernardo Silva, Alexander Zinchenko, Toure.

Italian Chelsea boss Antonio Conte reportedly may quit at the end of the 2017-18 season. Conte took Chelsea to their surprising Premier League title last season. However his relationship with Chelsea’s board is difficult, made worse by a failure to land a number of his priority transfer targets in the summer transfer window. Conte missed out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Sandro. Danilo, and Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea landed Alvaro Morata paying a club-record £58million fee. However Chelsea were still scrambling around on deadline day of the window to sign Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater, who is still yet to make his debut. The former Italy national team boss was close to quitting during the frustrating summer window. Inter Milan launched an effort to hire him away from Stamford Bridge. Conte sounded an alarm earlier this week when he admitted he missed Italy and did not intend to manage abroad for much longer.

“I miss Italy, there is no doubt,” said Conte. “It is not in my mind to stay abroad for a long time. Italy is my country. I will return, I don’t know when but that is the aim.”

When asked what other countries he would enjoy working in, he ruled out a move to China.

“China? No, absolutely not,” he added. “Bundesliga? It’s always difficult to predict the future. Let’s just say that a coach is a temporary worker. It depends on the results, but there’s desire on my part to try to do the best I can, finishing one project and then finding the right one to continue. I miss Italy, that’s a fact. Still, this experience is helping me so much. I would also like to change role, maybe become a sporting director in the future. Are we better than the English? There are practically no English managers in the Premier League. There are so many parts of the world here, but everyone here is good, prepared and among the best in the world.”

Conte signed a new contract in the summer that runs until 2019.

Manchester City v Shakhtar Donetsk - UEFA Champions League

Kevin de Bruyne of Man City celebrates scoring his sides opening goal during the UEFA Champions League Group F match bedtween Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk at Etihad Stadium on September 26, 2017 in Manchester UK.

KEVIN DE BRYUNE GRABS WINNER FOR CITY

Manchester City star striker Kevin De Bruyne scored the winner as Manchester City beat his old club Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

De Bruyne has become a better player this season for Manchester City, reports his boss Catalan Pep Guardiola who tried to sign him when Kevin was at Bundesliga giant club Bayern Munich. Popular playmaker De Bryune scored two key goals to help City win crucial Premier League victories keeping City on top of the Premier League Table after MatchWeek 7. Guardiola has seen progress in the player from last season. And it is his character that the manager believes makes De Bruyne such a rare talent.

"In the end, Kevin made the difference once again. He showed us once again how good he is," said Guardiola. "In the last game he scored the important goal and today again. Last season he hit the post 15 times. He can do absolutely everything. He is a guy that can play in different positions, up the channels, assists short and long and then he is the most humble and most shy guy. He is a guy that if you ask to run 100km for the team he will do it. It is not easy to find that in this kind of talent. He's one of our captains, I think he has made a step forward and people feel confident having him on the pitch.".

City did not give Chelsea any chance or opening as they “hassled and harried” the EPL champions before Kevin De Bruyne struck to earn a vital 1-0 win. Guardiola was clearly delighted that his men had shown what he is trying to achieve at the club.

"We are in September," added Guardiola. "It is so important winning at Stamford Bridge and they are not able to win. In terms of points it is so important but we spoke about that. We try as Manchester City to feel like a club - not just teammates or players or staff - to convince the club that we are able to go wherever and do our game, whatever happens. Of course you have to adapt to the opponent but to show in the first minute at Stamford Bridge that we have come to win, that is what I want to give to the club and the team and we did it today and we did it last season at Old Trafford in the first 45 minutes. Even when we came here last season we played in that way and we tried but we were unable to win. I am so satisfied because we won in the way we have been trying to from the beginning."

CSKA Moskva v Manchester United - UEFA Champions League

Chris Smalling and Romulu Lukaku celebrate winning the UEFA Champions League Group A match between CSKA Moskva and Manchester United at WEB Arena on Sepotember 27, 2017 in Moscow, Russia

MANCHESTER UNITED TOP LEAGUE WITH CITY

Man Utd are joint top of the England Premier League after soundly defeating Crystal Palace 4-0 in English Premier League MatchWeek 7. Next, Manchester United travel to battle mighty Liverpool at Anfield after the international break. United’s urgent summer pursuit of Ivan Perisic is almost forgotten as Marcus RashfordAnthony Martial and Ashley Young continue to shine on the left, while Marouane Fellaini is growing ever more popular with fans after his recent winning brace.

Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo are the only United players currently being treated for injury. However Jose Mourinho insists United is doing well despite the loss of Pogba for what could be a crucial run of games in the coming weeks.

"We never miss the players that are injured. That's our way of seeing it,” said Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho. “They are injured, we don't think about them. It's an opportunity for others, is a moment for others to step up and to get the chance, so I think that's good. When we moan all the time about injuries it looks like we don't trust the other people and we have to."

Liverpool have won only 1 of their last 7 clashes.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side went 1-0 up at St James’ Park but then fell back and failed to make all their hard work and countless chances count. Liverpool are 7 points behind Manchester United. Probably Jose Mourinho’s fit and in form Red devils’ side does not fear their trip to Anfield later this month after the international break.

Jones did play on Saturday against Palace, sat out the trip to Moscow, and will not play for England as a precaution as United face a tough run after the break and Mourinho wants his players fit and raring to go. The decisions will afford Jones some rest.

Injured Paul Pogba is expected to be out for a ‘long time’ after injuring his hamstring in United’s Champions League game against Basel. Pogba joins long-term absentees Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo on the sidelines.

Reportedly, United is 'close to Ozil deal' nearing an a pre-contract agreement. Ozil is available for free next summer at the end of his contract with Arsenal, but is considered a "luxury player" rather than a vital key addition to the current squad and may not fit in at United.

Romulu Lukaku and Fellaini did not take part in training on Monday. Both of them were carrying ‘knocks’ before the Palace games and managed to play so it’s probably just a precaution.

Manchester United has 15 players on international duty representing their countries:

Sergio Romero

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Romelu Lukaku

Marouane Fellaini

Chris Smalling

Phil Jones

Jesse Lingard

Marcus Rashford

Antonio Valencia

Matteo Darmian

Eric Bailly

Daley Blind

Nemanja Matic

David de Gea

Victor Lindelof

Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson believes Lukaku is better than Sergio “Kun”Aguero.

“At the moment I wouldn’t have Aguero in there,” said Robson. “Aguero’s a great player but if you look at Harry Kane, I think he’s the all-round centre-forward. I think Lukaku’s technique isn’t great but he’s scoring goals and is always a threat when the ball comes into the box. At the moment, yes I would have Lukaku over Aguero. If I was the manager at the moment, the way that Lukaku can score goals out of nothing, the way he can run in behind, the way he can win balls in the box.

Romelu Lukaku and his brother Jordan reported for international duty.

Former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand is swapping the pitch for the boxing ring but does not plan to make it a career.

“I want to see if I can get a licence and become a professional and have one fight,” said Ferdinand. “I am not looking to have a career here. I am looking to have a professional fight and I will see where I go then. This is not a joke. Hopefully, I will get a license, go on to become a professional and fight someone. Boxing can’t be a gimmick. If I take it lightly, I will get hurt.”

ARSENAL TICKETS & UPDATE

Arsenal v Doncaster Rovers - Carabao Cup Third Round

Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson in action during the Carabao Cup Third Round match between the Gunners and Doncaster overs at Emirates Stadium on September 20, 2017 in London, England

ARSENAL NEWS

Arsenal target, Spanish La Liga superstar Antoine Griezmann is close friends with Arsenal’s new hiring Alexandre Lacazette who admits he has a cunning plan to persuade his “best mate” Griezmann to join him at the Emirates. Griezmann currently is the high goal scorer at Atletico Madrid. Griezmann was strongly linked with a sensational move to Manchester United last summer ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, but the 26-year-old superstar striker remained with Atletico following the club’s transfer ban. Lacazette who joined the Gunners from French League 1 club Lyon in July, is close mates with Griezmann from their time together with the France national side. Lacazette is keen for Lacazette to follow him to north London.

“Yeah, we are very good friends and have lots of fun,” said Lacazette who has had an impressive start at Arsenal. “Our nicknames for each other are Griezzy and Lacaz. If Griezzy visits me in London, I’m going to ask him to sign for Arsenal!”

Griezmann was Jose Mourinho’s priority target in the summer but Romelu Lukaku instead completed a £75million move to Old Trafford following Atleti’s transfer ban.

The Red Devils remain interested in Frenchman Griezmann and are reportedly lining up a £100m bid.

Meanwhile Arsenal legend Paul Merson issued a stern warning to Mesut Ozil saying the ‘penny has got to drop’ for Mesut Ozil to earn a starting place in Gunners manager Arsene Wenger’s line-up. Germany international Ozil has been limited to just 7 minutes of action this season but the Gunners have impressed in his absence anyway. Following the 4-0 defeat at Liverpool, Wenger’s side have won 6 of their 7 fixtures and earned a point at reigning EPL champions Chelsea. Ozil has been one of Wenger’s key players since signing from Real Madrid in 2013, but Merson says the 28-year-old Ozil should work harder for the Gunners.

Merson was asked if he thinks Ozil will work his way onto Wenger’s starting squad this campaign.

“Yeah, I do,” said Merson. “You look at any world class player in the world we’ve seen over the last 15 or 20 years, you know one thing they do? They work hard. ‘They’ve got the class, they’ve got the skill, they’ve got everything, but they work hard at the same time – that’s what makes them world class. Ozil doesn’t do that part of the game, and if you don’t do that you can’t play in this day and age. I’ve seen Zinedine Zidane and he worked hard. I played against David Beckham enough times at Man United and you couldn’t believe how hard he worked up and down the right wing – it was scary.

Coming up Arsenal faces Watford on Saturday 14 October in the Premier League, Crveba Zvezda  in the Europa League on Thursday 19 October,  Everton on Sunday 22 October, Norwich in the Carbao Cup at home onTuesday 24 October, Swansea on Saturday 28 October, and Crvena Zvezda in the Europa League at home on Thursday 2 November.

Former Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he will not manage again this season. The Italian was sensationally sacked by the German Budesliga giant club last week just 10 games into the new campaign, after a 3-0 hammering by French Ligue 1 giants PSG. There is speculation that Ancelotti desires to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal with the Frenchman under pressure to deliver a top four spot this season at the Emirates to gain a spot in next season’s Champions League or leave the club. Wenger signed a two-year contract extension last summer. However Wenger could walk away from the club if Arsenal finishs outside the top four again. Ancelotti has decided he needs time off before re-entering high-level football management agan.

“For the next ten months I will rest, I will not coach any team,” said Ancelotti.

Bayern sacked Ancelotti amid reported unrest among his players with the club five points behind Bundesliga leaders, Borussia Dortmund. It appears that Ancelotti lost the confidence of his Bayern Munich players. Amid reports of secret training sessions and complaining Bayern stars abound since Ancelotti was asked to leave the giant German club.

“It is better to keep silent,” said Ancelotti when asked for further details of his sacking.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR NEWS

Mauricio Pochettino led Tottenham Hotspur into being fierce Premier League title contenders last season. After finishing third in the 2016-17 season and earning a spot in the 2017-18 Champions League competition, Spurs again are challengers for the title after just falling short last campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Pochettino criticised Dele Alli for the dive which saw the England star booked during Spurs' stunning 4-0 win over Huddersfield. Alli was shown a yellow card late in the match after being found guilty of simulation (diving) as he attempted to win a penalty off Huddersfield goalie Jonas Lossl. In addition, Alli was banned for one England game after being caught on camera duing a vulgar gesture with his middle finger. Alli has also been booked for simulation in past seasons. According to his boss Mauricio Pochettino, the 21-year-old Alli "needs to learn" because such incidents are harmful both to him as an individual and to Tottenham.

"I didn't see the incident," said Pochettino after the game. "It's so difficult for me from my position. But if it was like this he needs to learn. He must learn. This type of action doesn't help him, doesn't help the team and doesn't help the football. We are talking in the last few years about fair play, about being honest. I think he is improving a lot and learning but still he must learn."

Meanwhile, Spurs fans are unhappy with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s dig at their club. Spaniard Guardiola got a backlash from his recent remark referring to the North London side as “the Harry Kane team” talking about the tough matches City has ahead of them.

“We have Manchester United and the Harry Kane team who scores every game 2 or 3 goals. Jose with United will always be tough.”

Harry Kane, the dual Golden Boot winner, hit his fifth and sixth Premier League goals of the season as Tottenham Hotspur beat Huddersfield 4-0 on Saturday. In total Kane has scored 13 goals for club and country this season with seven goals in his last three matches.

It was unclear whether Guardiola meant the remark as a sly dig or as a compliment.

Spurs fans went on social media to hit back at the Spaniard, with @SpursintheBlood saying: “Guardiola, yet to beat us in the league and spent almost half a billion in transfers, has the nerve to subtly call us a one man team”.

@Janssening added, “So disrespectful”, and @AdsThompson1983weighed in with: “Says the geezer that has inherited a world class team wherever he has been. Found out last year! Money saved jim this year so far.”

Pochettino’s side finished above City with the best defensive record in the Premier League in May. Spurs also beat City last season while Kane was out injured between mid-September and the first week of November.

Mauricio Pochettino believes Harry Kane is is one of the best goal-scorers in the world today. Kane matched Spain La Liga superstar Lionel Messi’s best haul of goals in one month. Kane scored two goals in Tottenham Hotspur’s Saturday win against Huddlestown took Kane’s goal tally total for his eight games in the month of September to 13. Barca’s Messi did that in March 2012. Cristiano Ronaldo did that in October 2010.

“It’s frustrating I didn’t get a hat-trick,” said Kane, who was subbed off in the 87th minute.

Kane scored 25 goals to win the 2015-16 season's Premier League Golden Boot and went four better last time to make it two Boots.

This season, Kane is enjoying the prospect of a battle with Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata, and Sergio Aguero to retain his Golden Boot this season.

“They have all started so well,” said Kane. “This will be the hardest season to retain it.”

Kane hopes to be England skipper for the World Cup next summer and manager Gareth Southgate may choose to have a permanent leader for his side.

“I think Gareth has said he is going to take his time with that. I have had the arm band and it was a very proud moment for myself,” said Kane. “Whoever he picks next week as captain again, the team will get behind him and we will focus on the job. We are still not qualified and we have to win the game Thursday and it makes it easier Sunday. I feel like one of the leaders in the team but we have plenty of leaders in the England team. I focus on scoring goals and continuing this form into October.

“The most important thing is do your talking on the pitch. That is all that matters. I will focus on that.”

“As a striker sometimes you go through patches like this. I said in August, sometimes it goes for you sometimes it doesn’t, but this month it has gone my way. I am sad the month is ending. What is it like being of such a hot streak? I just feel confident. I feel any chances I get around the box I will score, or definitely work the keeper.”

"This was a great result. We wanted to come out and put the energy on and get an early goal. It worked out perfectly,” added Kane. “It is a pleasure to play in this team.

“I am there to finish it off and put most of the chances away. But when you have Dele and Christian, plus Ben Davies and Tripps (Kieran Trippier), in the wide area, and the guys backing it up we have a great squad."

Kane scored twice in the first 123 minutes with Davies also netting to out class Huddersfield completely. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko got a fourth in added time, his very first for the club, 13 months after his £30million move from Newcastle United.
