WAYNE ROONEY

Wayne Rooney left giant England Premier League club Manchester United for his boyhood club Everton as one of the most decorated and successful players in the club's stunning history, with 16 trophies to his name. That amazing trophy tally began way back in February 2006, when the superstar striker scored twice in a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic to claim the League Cup at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.  To finish his glittering Manchester United career, in May 2017, Rooney lifted his 16th piece of silverware - the UEFA Europa League trophy - following a 2-0 win over Ajax in Stockholm – the victory qualified the Reds for a spot in the 2017-18 Champions League. Rooney’s new boss, Everton manager Ronald Koeman said: 'Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality – he knows how to win titles and I'm really happy he's decided to come home. He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don't have any doubts about his qualities. It's fantastic he's here.'

Reportedly Rooney has agreed to a salary reduction of around 50 per cent as part of the deal taking him back to Everton. United have agreed to pay a portion of their departing captain's wages, which amount to upwards of £300,000 a week, to facilitate the transfer.

United manager Jose Mourinho paid tribute to the Reds' club legend.

Mourinho said, 'It is no secret that I have long been an admirer of Wayne; he has been a model professional throughout his time at the club and will remain in the history books for many years to come,” said Mourinho. 'It is never easy to see a great player playing less football than he would like and I could not stand in his way when he asked to go back to Everton. His experience, focus and determination will be missed and I wish him well for the future.'

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in each half for Real Madrid in Cardiff.

Cristiano Ronald will feature for Real Madrid in UEFA Super Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo attained an astonishing 600th career goal for club and country in the Champions League final in June 2017, and goes into the 2017-18 season having scored an amazing record 406 goals for Real Madrid in addition to the 118 goals he scored for Manchester United, the side he left in 2009 for a then-world-record fee of £80 million after six years of competing for the Red Devils at Old Trafford. In total, Ronaldo, 32, has scored 604 goals for club and country, including a record 105 goals in the Champions League.

Fans should note that Ronaldo is on the Real Madrid squad list to face his former club Manchester United on Tuesday. Ronaldo could face off against one of his former clubs Manchester United for the seventh time when Real Madrid clash with Man United in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje, Macedonia on Tuesday. Superstar Ronaldo was included in Real Madrid's traveling squad on Monday and is likely to make his first appearance for the team after an extended summer vacation break following the Confederations Cup in June. Portugal international Ronaldo remains unbeaten against all his former clubs, last faced Manchester United in 2013, when he scored in both legs of a UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie. Ronaldo's 30th-minute header was the match equalizer in a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Ronaldo sent Madrid into the quarter-finals with a stunning goal in the 69th minute of a 2-1 victory at his former ground Old Trafford.

Real Madrid will make their 6th appearance in the Super Cup, hoping to win the Super Cup for the fourth time and become the first club to win it in consecutive years since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990. Real Madrid have won 4 of their 10 clashes against Man United, having drawn four others, and have not lost the first match of any season since 2008. Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United will make their 4th appearance in the Super Cup, hoping to win it for the first time since 1991. The runners-up in 2008, United will battle to be the first English Premier League club to win the Super Cup since Liverpool defeated CSKA Moscow in 2005. The only wins by Man United against Real Madrid were in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals in 2003, which they lost on aggregate, and their win in the first leg of the European Cup semifinals in 1968.

Former United star Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to play a pre-season match for Real Madrid because he was afforded an extended summer break, having represented Portugal at the Confederations Cup as recently as 2 July. After rumors that he will not feature in Macedonia, reportedly he actually trained hard in a bid to be drafted back into the squad in time to face his old club and former manager.

There is plenty of suspense surrounding Jose Mourinho’s starting XI for Manchester United’s clash against Real Madrid. Mourinho has some tough decisions to make following his side’s successful pre-season tour of the United States and Europe. United looked in form, impressive, sharp and fit throughout their summer warm-up matches.

Eric Bailly will be out due to suspension after UEFA extended his initial one game match ban to three, following the red card he received against Anderlecht at Old Trafford back in April. Phil Jones is out due to UEFA punishment announced earlier this week. Juan Mata and Ander Herrera picked up injuries during Tour 2017, but both Spain internationals are available. Sergio Romero and Jesse Lingard did not travel to Dublin for last Wednesday's 2-1 win by the Red Devils over Sampdoria at the Aviva Stadium. Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are all in rehab and will miss out.
